3 Port Districts Inaugurated to Enhance Cooperation with Port of Guangzhou and Help Port of Dongguan Upgrade into a World-class Pivotal Port

After the inauguration of Dongguan Binhaiwan New District and Port of Dongguan, Shatian Port District, Machong Port District and Neihe Port District officially inaugurated recently. Huang Shaofeng, Party member of the municipal government and also deputy secretary of the party working committee and director of the management committee of Dongguan Binhaiwan New District, attended the opening ceremony.
  
As Huang said, speeding up the construction of Port of Dongguan was a signification measure for promoting Dongguan to integrate into the Great Bay Area (Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao) and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Scientific & Technological Innovation Corridor and also for continually constructing institutional mechanisms adapted to open economy. Proactively seizing the strategic opportunities brought by the Great Bay Area and strengthening cooperation with Port of Guangzhou, Port of Dongguan is committed to build itself into a world-class pivotal port.
 
On October 12, inauguration of Dongguan Binhaiwan New District and Port of Dongguan and groundbreaking of the Land Filling Project of Dongguan Binhaiwan New District were officially held, which was of milestone significance for Dongguan’s reform and development progress. On the next day, three port districts of Port of Dongguan, namely Shatian Port District, Machong Port District and Neihe Port District, also celebrated their inauguration.

In March 2016, Humen Port was renamed Port of Dongguan. According to the statistics, in 2016, Port of Dongguan achieved the cargo throughput and container throughput of 146 million tons and 3.64 million TEU respectively, and the latter ranked the 11th in the country and the 40th in the world.

Among said three port districts, Shatian Port District is the forerunner of cluster development, the main supporter to the construction of an important comprehensive pivot port and also the significant strategic resource for Dongguan’s opening to the outside world and participating in international economic cooperation and competition. Along with the high-speed development of the Port of Dongguan in recent years, Shatian Port District, as the mainstay, has been playing an exemplary and leading role in port district construction, industrial development and port-city co-construction.
 
Machong Port District, as the largest multi-purpose port for bulk and general cargo in Dongguan, is primarily responsible for the transportation of cereals, coals, building materials and other bulk and general cargos for the whole Pearl River Delta. In recent years, thanks to the further exploitation and development of Machong Port District, port-centered industries have been clustered together to upgrade the urban construction of the surrounding towns and communities, speed up the economic structure optimization of the regions of rivers and lakes and considerably promote the economic development of the whole district.

The time-honored Neihe Port District, consisting of Shilong Work Zone, Guancheng Work Zone and Zhongtang Work Zone and connected to Dongguan Waterway, Houjie Waterway, Zhongtang Waterway and some other important waterways, is playing an indispensable role in the transportation of the materials required for production and living in Dongguan and also containers. Liu Linhong, the Party secretary of Shilong Town, said, Shilong Port, one of the very few ports equipped with rail-water combined transport, boasted well-developed highway, waterway and railway traffic network and the inauguration of Neihe Port District provided closer connection between Shilong Port and Dongguan Binhaiwan New District.
